Three reasons why Northeastern is heading back to the Beanpot Final, this time at TD Garden
For the first time ever, the Women’s Beanpot Final will be held at TD Garden
On Tuesday, Northeastern defeated Harvard 1-0 in the Beanpot semifinals at the Bright Landry Center, in Cambridge, MA. However the final will be played somewhere else, and that will be TD Garden. The Huskies had a very strong game, even though the result was a 1-0 score, and I am going to give you three reasons why Northeastern is moving on.
Defense:
When it comes to what the Huskies did best, it was their defensive style of play on Tuesday that got them the win. From denying entries to strong breakouts, and shot blocking, Jules Constantinople and Rylie Jones led the Huskies with multiple shot blocks in the defensive zone. Constantinople with 3, and Jones with 4. The Huskies had 11-shot blocks total, as they only let 9 shots get on net, but Gwyneth Philips stopped them all.
Goaltending:
One name: Gwyneth Philips.
The Huskies’ depth at the goaltender position has been very strong this year, as Gwyneth Philips has been rock solid in the crease, posting a shutout against Harvard on Tuesday which ultimately awarded her fourth shutout of the year.

Offensive Pressure:
Even though Northeastern scored one goal, the majority of the game was in the Huskies’ attacking zone. This resulted in low opportunities for Harvard, and more chances for the Huskies. Northeastern had 40 shots on goal, with Harvard only recording 9. The Huskies had so much pressure in the offensive zone, that most of the game was on Harvard’s end, which is another reason why Northeastern was able to snag the win. Northeastern’s lonely goal was a redirect goal by Taze Thompson, who tipped a point shot from Tory Mariano, with an assist to Lily Shannon at 11:42 of the first period.
