Frédéric Brunet's impressive AHL debut
The 2022 5th Rounder and 19 y/o turned some heads after making a strong debut for the Providence Bruins

Frédéric Brunet, the Bruins 2022 5th Round pick, made an impressive debut for the Providence Bruins last Saturday. The 19 year old registered two points, both assists. (one primary, one secondary.) Brunet signed an ATO (Amateur Try-Out Agreement) with the P-Bruins once his QMJHL season ended with both Rimouski and Victoriaville. Brunet was traded to Victoriaville during the QMJHL trading period, which seemed to bring a bigger offensive edge to his game.
Now with Providence, he has to transition from the Major Junior game to the Pro game. After one game, he clearly has showed he is ready to make that transition, and is up for the challenge.
Brunet showed a lot of confidence in his first game as a pro, he didn’t hesitate to use his stick with confidence, dangle around defenders, start breakouts, enter the zone cleanly, and make strong defensive plays. The 19 year old had great numbers as well, +1, 2 assists, 57% CORSI 5v5, xGF% of 54.87%, a few shot blocks, and saved a goal with his stick. (I truly believe)
We are now going to watch all of his shifts from his game, I cut a few out that weren’t useful, but I made sure to keep in most of his shifts that I thought mattered throughout the game.
Brunet had over a point per game in the QMJHL this year, and I personally think he starts next year in the AHL, and if he regresses, he’ll play an overage season back in the QMJHL. Definitely a project for the Bruins, but if Brunet keeps up his strong all-around game in the pros, it will end up being a great sign for the Bruins and their 5th round selection.
